You’re probably familiar with that old song that says: “If we ever needed the Lord before, we sure do need Him now.”

Yes, “We need Him in the morning, we need Him in the night. . . . We need Him every day and every hour.”

Things in this world are ramping up. Those prophecies we have believed and preached since 1844 are true just like the Bible said. But that really shouldn’t surprise us. Jesus told us it would happen—just like He told Israel of old that His first coming would happen. Sadly, He was rejected by many because He didn’t come in the way they expected.

Many hadn’t studied the word to know God. Rather, they had studied to survive as a nation. They had a form of godliness, but denied the power. They wanted a Messiah to save them—not from their sin but from the Romans.

Jesus is anxious to come back—literally, visibly and soon to take all of His children to that “forever home.” We announce that “fact” every time we say, “I am a Seventh-day Adventist.” The signs in the front of our church buildings proclaim the same truth. The “advent” (coming) is going to happen—in God’s perfect timing. Do we still believe it? What does it mean to us personally?

In the parable of the 10 talents, the nobleman told his servants to “occupy till I come.” We understand this to mean that we should continue to live faithfully and responsibly until Jesus returns, and we should. However, is it possible that we have become pre-occupied with occupying? Has this legitimate instruction become an excuse to be casual about our walk with Jesus?

Wouldn’t this be a good time to be more about “preparing” to meet Jesus and less about “occupying”? Wouldn’t this be a good time to establish a “forever friendship” with a neighbor? Wouldn’t this be a good time to pray for both the “early” and “latter” rain? Yes, it would.

Considering some of the significant events unfolding around us, this is an amazing time to be alive. It’s a call to a develop a deeper walk with Jesus than we’ve ever experienced before! (Think: Prayer, Bible study and Sharing).

Yes, “If we ever needed the Lord before, we sure do need Him now”.
